New Delhi: The relief camp in Mustafabad witnessed chaotic scenes on Friday, as heavy rains lashed the national Capital.

Delhi has been witnessing thunderstorms for the last two days, which has created problems for the people in the relief camp as water has entered the area where families are sleeping. On Friday evening, people were seen sweeping the floor, which was filled with water. Mattresses were uprooted and thermocol was spread everywhere. "Look at the condition here. How will we live here? First, our homes were taken away and now this?" cried a woman at the camp.

The relief camp set up by various civil organisations in collaboration with the Delhi Government is giving shelter to people from Shiv Vihar and other areas whose houses were burned in Delhi violence. The problems have increased for people ever since. There are about 1,000 people taking shelter in the camp. "We are trying to tackle the issue ourselves. This is just chaos," said a resident of Shiv Vihar, who was taking shelter at the camp.

People, meanwhile, are trying to find a dry spot to keep their belongings that are getting wet. "As it is we have nothing left," said a woman whose house was vandalised in the riots. Meanwhile, outside the Eid Gah heaps of clothes lie scattered giving little space for people's movement. A small gate is kept open, where the two-way traffic moves. This creates a chaotic scene at the entry-exit point.

Even though people had managed to somehow make the situation better, heavy rains lashed the city on Friday evening as well. "We are trying to rehabilitate the people living here and are in talks with the authorities as to what place can the people can be shifted to," said Tanvi a volunteer with the civil organisation.

The camp has been set up at New Mustafabad Eid Gah. The area also saw mud due to the rains, making it difficult for people to walk by. The camp also has a medical, legal and compensation sections made available for the people needing assistance.
