A 35-year-old milk supplier was gunned down by a group of unidentified assailants in North East Delhi on late Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Rashid Khan, succumbed to his injures after being shot four times. The police are now on the lookout for the accused persons.

The police have so far not been able to ascertain the motive of the crime. However, sources told Millennium Post that Khan was involved in an extra-marital relationship with another woman from the locality, which could have been the likely reason for his murder.

Additionally, Khan was notorious in his locality for having opened fire at a youth last year and for his involvement in a spate of criminal cases.

According to a senior police official, after casting his vote for the MCD elections, Khan was returning to his home located near Buland Masjid, Shastri Park.

When Khan reached his house, he found a group of men standing outside. Instead of entering his home, Khan chose to chat with them.

After interacting with the group, Khan reportedly left around 8.30 pm to meet a friend living in Seelampur. As he was about to reach his friends place, he was intercepted by the group, who fired at him four times. Two bullets hit him in the head, killing him on the spot.

A police team from Seelampur police station was deputed to the spot following a PCR call. Khan was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at a local hospital.

The police later inquired Khan's close friends and family members for clues. Based on their statements, police picked up his close friend Bilal (30) for questioning.

"The deceased was married twice. He was found murdered next to a park near the masjid. We are scouring the area for any information about the accused persons. They will be caught soon," said A K Singhla, DCP (North East).  In addition to his extra-marital affair, it is believed that Khan's involvement in the criminal cases may have also been a motive.
