Mercury maintained an upward trend on Saturday touching the 40 degrees Celsius mark in some parts of the national capital.
The Safdarjung observatory, whose recording is considered the official for the city, registered a maximum temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius, six notches above the normal, said a Met department official.
The Palam observatory registered a high of 40.6 degrees Celsius, while the one at Lodhi Road recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius, the official said.
The humidity levels oscillated between 71 per cent and 22 per cent.
The weatherman has predicted overcast conditions for Sunday.
"The skies will be partly cloudy. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 38 and 23 degrees Celsius tomorrow," the official said.
On Friday the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.3 degrees Celsius, while the maximum settled at 38.6 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, parts of nearby Himachal Pradesh experienced dry and hot day with
overcast conditions on Saturday evening.
