New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its dust-mitigation efforts across the Central Zone, with a special focus on the Okhla region one of the city’s persistent pollution hotspots. As winter approaches and Delhi’s air quality continues to fluctuate, the civic body has undertaken a coordinated cleanliness and dust-control operation aimed at curbing particulate matter and improving on-ground environmental conditions.
According to officials, teams deployed in Okhla carried out a series of targeted measures, including mechanical sweeping along major stretches, manual cleaning in narrower lanes, and high-frequency sprinkling to ensure dust particles settle effectively. Water tankers and anti-smog machines were also pressed into service, especially in areas identified as high-risk zones for dust accumulation due to construction activity and vehicular movement.
MCD officials said that consistent on-ground monitoring has been set in motion to track the effectiveness of daily operations. Supervisory teams have been instructed to ensure that sweeping schedules are adhered to and that sprinkling is intensified during peak pollution hours. The corporation added that the focus remains on intervening at the micro level checking dust at its source before it enters the ambient air.
Residents of the area reported visible improvements in road cleanliness over the past week. Many welcomed the civic initiative, noting that timely intervention is critical as air quality tends to worsen during the winter due to stubble burning and atmospheric stagnation.
