The Crime Branch unit of Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a man who was involved in four cases of container theft from Jasola in South-East Delhi.
The accused was responsible for stealing goods from containers that were supposed to be shipped abroad.
The police have recovered 416 cartons containing 1,439 ceiling fans of different companies and 52 cartons containing electric changers from a warehouse located in Surajpur Industrial Area, Greater Noida. According to police, the accused has been identified as Manoj Kumar (30).
On March 3, the cops received secret information that a fugitive criminal with the same name – who was tagged as 'wanted' in several cases of container thefts from the area of Tuglaqabad – would arrive near Metro Line located at Jasola Village around 3 pm.
Following this, a police team was deputed and Kumar was nabbed immediatelf after he was identified.
Kumar revealed that he was working as a manager with Vinod Sharma, who runs a gang of container thieves in connivance with drivers of containers in Tuglaqabad, Faridabad, Dadri, and Greater Noida. Kumar also said that Sharma has a warehouse on lease in Surajpur Industrial Area.
Adding to this, Kumar said that hundreds of cartons and packages – that are stored in their warehouse – are stolen goods that the gang robbed from the containers that were to be exported. After committing the crime, he had fled to his native village in Bihar.
Three months earlier, he had returned to the city to work as manager with Sharma.
"They used to seal the containers after replacing the goods with sand bags. Following this, the sealed ones were shipped to its destinations. After two to three months, when the containers reached their destinations, the theft would be discovered," said a senior police officer.
"We have started a manhunt for Sharma," the officer added.
