The MCD elections passed off rather peacefully on Sunday, with the exception of one incident in Andrews Ganj ward in South MCD where a local gangster pulled a gun on the Congress candidate Abhishek Dutt to stop him from casting his vote.

When Dutt tried to reason with him, the gangster slapped a minor girl standing beside the candidate. After being called to the spot, police apprehended and escorted the accused Rohit Basoya away.

The police later arrested Basoya, a gangster, but his gang reportedly made calls to Dutt threatening his family with dire consequences.

The incident took place when Dutt went to cast his vote at a polling booth located inside an MCD school in Andrews Ganj late in the afternoon.

While Dutt was waiting for his turn, he was approached by Basoya in front of the local police staff.
"While
I was waiting, the gangster pulled out a gun and issued threats in front of everyone. He asked me not to cast my vote. A minor girl who was standing near me was slapped by this man. He was later escorted out of the premises by the local police staff," said Dutt in his complaint.

However, at 4.46 pm on Sunday, Dutt's family was threatened on phone by gang members associated with Basoya. Following this, Dutt registered his complaint at the Defence Colony police station.

"In the near future, if anything happens to me and my family, then this whole group should be held responsible," the complaint further read.

The police have registered a case and are trying to trace the identity and the whereabouts of the gang. They have claimed that they will soon make headway in the case.
