New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday said that a man was slashed with a knife to death after he resisted an attempted pickpocketing in New Delhi area, adding that three accused have been arrested in the case.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Amarjeet, a resident of in Nilothi Gaon area.
The incident was reported on Sunday evening, when Amarjeet, his wife Manju and other family members were returning home after visiting the zoo by bus, when one the accused tried to pickpocket his phone.
"Amarjeet caught him red-handed and the accused tried to flee the spot. Both the husband and the wife tried to catch him and his two associates, and then the accused slashed Amarjeet in the chest," police said.
Police claimed that the Manju immediately raised an alarm and called passersby on the road, who soon overpowered and caught two of the accused.
A PCR call was made and the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died on Monday.
"Manju ran to catch the accused and alerted everyone, which led to their arrest," police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said on Monday that they managed to arrest the third accused after several raids. A case has been registered in this regard.
This year, till February 15, around 59 cases of murder have been reported in the city. In 2016, around 528 cases of murder were reported, whereas last year 487 cases of murder were registered with the city police.
