Man dies in failed bid to save another from electrocution

New Delhi: It was around 4:30 pm on Sunday when fifty-four-year-old Hoshiyar Singh saw a young man lying on the road just near his bike which was fallen in some water collected on the road after the rain. What he saw next was a live electric wire touching his bike. He soon realsied that the man was electrocuted.

Hoshiyar Singh immediately rushed to help the injured man but was himself electrocuted. Both were rushed to the hospital but the doctors declared both 32-year-old Saleem and 54-year-old Hoshiyar Singh brought dead.

The accident happened near Bagwani Nursery Jonapur in Fatehpur Beri on Sunday afternoon at around 4:30 pm just around the time it was raining in Delhi.

A senior police officer said that one of the wires of an electric pole which had three lines probably fell on the biker identified as Saleem, the second man Hoshiyar Singh who was passing by tried to save the man but was electrocuted himself.

People blocked the road and called the BSES to stop the electric supply in the lane. However, by the time it was done both men has succumbed to their injuries.

Saleem was a carpenter and a resident of Village Panjusarai, District Amroha in UP and resided with his family in Delhi's Chandanhaula.

He was returning home from work when the accident happened. His family was devastated after the tragedy.

"His father expired long back. Saleem was married and had two small children, 2 girls and a boy. He was the lone earning member of his family. Why should his family suffer for the negligence of someone else? Who is going to look after his family," said Saleem's brother?

"My father in law died while saving a young man on the road, we want the police to actively pursue the case of negligence. This is the least police could do now. Hoshiyar Singh has two sons both of whom are studying while one daughter is married. He was the lone earning member of the family. We want immediate action agaisnt this negligent act," said Manish, son in – law of the deceased Hoshiyar Singh.

Hoshiyar Singh was into Timber business and resided at Moladband Extn. Badarpur Delhi.

"We have registered a case U/s 287/304A IPC and are taking legal action," said DCP South Vijay Kumar.
