Liquor smuggler inspired by ‘Fast & Furious’ nabbed

NEW DELHI: In a major crackdown ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of South-West Delhi has arrested a notorious liquor supplier inspired by the fast and furious movie and a member of the Amit Palamia gang, for transporting illicit liquor into the capital.

An anonymous source tipped the Anti-Narcotics Task Force of the South West Delhi about the supplier.

The accused has been identified as Sagar alias Monti son of Pehlad resident of Ratiram Bag, Village Palam, New Delhi.

According to the police, acting on intelligence, the police seized 2,980 quarters of liquor and a Maruti Eeco van used for transportation.

The arrest and recovery were part of proactive measures by law enforcement to ensure free, fair, and safe elections.

The operation, led by a team under SI Anil and supervised by ACP Operations, uncovered a consignment of liquor labeled “For Sale in Haryana Only,” including 2,500 quarters of Desi liquor and 480 quarters of English whiskey.

The contraband was reportedly smuggled from Haryana to supply local bootleggers in Delhi.

The operation unfolded near the border area of Kapashera. Acting on a tip-off about the illicit transportation of liquor using a Maruti Eeco and a Scorpio, police set up a trap near Dwarka Expressway. Around 7:15 am, the suspect’s vehicle was spotted.

Despite police signals, the driver attempted to evade capture, ramming the police vehicle in the process.

After a high-speed chase, the van was intercepted, while a black Scorpio, reportedly linked to gang leader Amit Palamia, managed to flee.

Upon inspection of the Maruti Eeco, police discovered 50 cartons of Fresh Motta Orange Masaledar Desi liquor and 10 cartons of Double Blue Deluxe whiskey.

The driver, identified as Sagar alias Monti, admitted to working for Palamia, smuggling liquor from Haryana for distribution in Delhi.

A case under relevant sections of the Delhi Excise Act has been registered at Kapashera Police Station. Police have intensified efforts to apprehend the Scorpio driver and dismantle the smuggling network.
