LG inaugurates beautified space under Mahipalpur Flyover

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the arrival of the head of states of ten ASEAN Countries, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday inaugurated the new rotary leading to Terminals 3 and 4 of the IGI Airport and the space under the Mahipalpur flyover.
Complimenting the efforts of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) in beautifying the space, Baijal exhorted officers to undertake such developments for beautification as well as to prevent places from being misused by anti-social elements.
South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri, SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Standing Committee Chairman Bhupender Gupta, Leader of House Shikha Rai, SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel and other officials were present on this occasion.
The civic body completed removal of unclaimed construction debris, garbage and other junk lying under the flyover and carried out development of the 1.8 km stretch as well as painting of the flyover, spread across 60,000 sq m, in the minimum possible time.
Work on the entire project, spread over an area of 2.34 acre, was completed in 17 days at a cost of around Rs 3.5 crore.
The most noticeable feature of the development work is the renovation of the replica of the iconic Qutab Minar, which was produced from waste material lying at SDMC stores.
The 'Waste to Art' replica is the first-of-its-kind to have been installed in the Capital and was set up at a cost of Rs 16 lakh. whereas total cost of the beautification.
The development work was finished quickly in anticipation of the arrival of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) dignitaries and can be seen by people crossing thies busy stretch at National Highway-8, said Goel.
He added that the civic body will continue to undertake such projects, as per the LG's instructions to further improve the image of the city.
