JNU asks faculty, students not to take part in trade union's strike

New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University administration on Monday asked faculty and students to not participate in a two-day strike called by varsity students' body in support of the all-India strike by trade unions on January 8-9.

Objecting to the tone of the communication, the JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) has slammed the administration over "massive" cutback on funds and demanded that Vice-Chancellor Prof Jagadesh Kumar explain within two days or step down. The students' body alleged the administration has "withheld" renewals of around 20 journals for want of funds.
