Gurugram: The electoral prospects of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in the upcoming elections remain uncertain as supremo Om Prakash Chautala, in an unprecedented move, dissolved the party's youth and student units.
The decision is believed to be taken on account of indiscipline among party workers.
The youth and student wings were being managed by Chautala's grandsons Dushyant and Digvijay, respectively.
Digvijay, who spearheaded the Indian National Students' Organisation, was at the forefront of the demand to bring back student union elections in Haryana, which will likely be held on October 15 after a gap of 22 years.
Counting is expected to begin on the same day.
Gurugram holds the key as it not only has a sizeable population of college students, but is also very close to the national capital, making the district politically significant.
The elections will be held just a few months before the general elections, which will be followed by the Assembly elections. There are 12 colleges in the Gurugram city itself and among the challenges plaguing them are shortage of courses, security of girl students and poor infrastructure.
Despite being the richest district in the state, in terms of higher education, Gururgam does not have much to boast about.
