India remained developing nation as we lack entrepreneurship mindset: Sisodia
NEW DELHI: For years India remained a developing nation but could not become a developed country because the country did not have the mindset of entrepreneurship, described Delhi's Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Thursday. "In my childhood I learned that there are three types of nations, developed, developing and underdeveloped. My teachers told me that India is a developing country but in a few years it will become a developed country. Today, teachers teach the same. India remained a developing country because we lack entrepreneurship mindset," he said.
In an interaction with the teachers about the newly launched Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum, the Deputy CM who also holds the portfolio of the Education Minister, explained the need of this curriculum and how this is different from CBSE's entrepreneurship skill curriculum. "In this curriculum, we do not want to give the training of marketing or how to make a good business model and other skills. Our goal is to make the mindset of students to be an entrepreneur. We want that a student should have the confidence that if or she does not get a job then he or she would have started their own business," said the Education Minister.
He also explained that such an important mindset could not be made in in the college or university, school life is the ideal for that. "I believe that change the perception of life and to make a strong mindset, class 9-12 is the best time, therefore, we are giving the training of entrepreneurship mindset in these classes," said Deputy CM Sisodia.
Explaining how this mindset will change the life of these students and the nation, the education minister discussed the issue of unemployment. "India has become an economy of job seekers and salary based people. The best brains which are produced by India are serving the other countries and bringing home just the salary. The entrepreneurship mindset will make people work independently and make them self-sufficient. This will bring down and finish the unemployment problem," he said.
The framework of entrepreneurship curriculum was approved by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in its governing council meeting chaired by the Education Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia. The entrepreneurship curriculum will be based on activity and there would be no evaluation, examination and books for the curriculum. It will be based on syllabus and learning sessions. The entrepreneurship curriculum will be taught from classes 9 to 12 to equip the students to face in a better way the challenges of life after education.
