Gurugram: There have been six juveniles in the last three weeks that have been charged for rape.
In a recent case a 16-year-old was booked was sexually assaulting a 13-year-old. Just a week before this incident there another juvenile who was a son of the owner of a playschool sexually assaulted a four-old who was there as a student in the playschool.
The incident once again raised the alarm of unregistered playschools in the city.
In one of the worse crimes that have been reported in the city this year four juveniles were charged with not only sexually assaulting 12-year-old multiple times but even stoning him to death when he raised objections.
Crimes involving juveniles has witnessed a sharp increase in Gurugram. Just this year there have been over 50 cases that have been registered in the Gurugram police station that have involved juveniles.
In 2018, there were 215 cases that involved juveniles. In most of these cases not only are the juveniles been involved in cases of snatchings but there have also been cases of ATM thefts, burglaries and even rapes. Every year the crimes by juveniles are increasing by 15 per cent every year.
In 2018, there were 215 cases that were registered, in 2017 there were 156 cases that came to fore while in 2016 and 2015 the number of cases was 175 and 173. In a worrying trend for law enforcement officials, most of the gangsters are now employing the teenagers to carry out heinous criminal activities that involve taking out their rivals. In early June this year, a juvenile who was charged in the multiple cases of snatchings were let- off by the juvenile justice board by asking him to plant over 50 saplings.
This was one of the ten cases that have been disposed of by the JJB this year, the conviction rate of the rest of the 40 cases are yet to be completed.
