IGI police received 1,739 PCR calls in four months outside their jurisdiction

New Delhi: In the last four months, most of the PCR calls made to the IGI police were found to be outside their jurisdiction.

According to Delhi Police data, as many as 1,739 PCR calls (till April) received which were not related to any crime but related to flight tickets, boarding at the airport, etc which were faced by the flyers.

"Many of the passengers were not happy with the flight services or delay in flight due to which they informed the police," an officer said. The Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post revealed that from IGI airport, around 2,200 PCR calls were made in which 1,739 were not related to police.

From international Airport, 1,554 calls were found not related to police whereas 312 calls were found untraced .

As many as 103 cases were transferred to other districts.

"In untraced calls, complainants usually call the cops and boarded flights. When the police team reached the spot, they did not find any person (complainant)," added the officer.

From domestic airport, as many as 226 calls were received in which 185 calls were outside police jurisdiction whereas 10 calls were found to be untraced. Around 22 cases were also transferred to other units.

The law enforcement agency registered cases in three calls and all were solved. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Sanjay Bhatia said that calls which were not related to police but they attended every call made to them. "We tried our level best to redress the grievances," said DCP IGI.

Special Investigation team setup

According to Delhi Police data, as many as 63 cases were filed in domestic airport in which 53 cases were solved and 64 persons were arrested. From international airport, around 178 cases were reported in which 178 solved.

"As many as 196 persons nabbed," added the data. DCP (IGI) Sanjay Bhatia told that they have set up special investigation team who are tasked to probe and solve the crime.

As many as 1,026 crime cases were reported from the highly secured Delhi airports in the year 2018. And with the arrest of more than 700 people, the Delhi Police claimed to have solved 76 per cent of crime incidents. According to Delhi Police Annual Report of 2018, the area of IGI Airport covers approx. 35 sq. km. and witnesses a floating population of about 2.5 lakh people every day.

There are three airport terminals i.e. T-1, T-2, & T-3 handling about 1700 per day, one AFS technical area for VIP movement and a commercial business centre namely

Aerocity. "In Aerocity, there are 11 hotels, 3 commercial towers and 1 convention centre. A total of 350 outlets/shops exist in the terminal buildings. Other infrastructures like Security Operations Control Centre, Airport Operations Control Centre, Main Receiving Sub Station, Air Traffic Station and Cargo Terminal Complex etc are also situated in the area in the Airport," added the report.
