The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has notified all the two-wheeler distributors across Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar district that they will now have to sell a helmet along with their bikes and scooters, or risk having their dealership license will be cancelled, said RTO officials.
"As per the directions issued by Uttar Pradesh Transport Commissioner on February 25, 2016, the rule applies to all the two-wheeler dealers in the state that it is mandatory to sell a helmet along with the bikes and scooters.
The commission mentioned that each dealer would have to give BSI certified helmets as original equipment. No vehicle would be registered by the authorities without it," the RTO mentioned in the notice.
"Though the orders had been issued a year before, some dealers are still selling the vehicles without helmets. It is stringent for all the agencies to follow these rules. We have again issued notices to all the two-wheeler dealers. The record is maintained in the RTO. We insisted the dealers to attach the original bill of the helmet along with the sale documents in the RTO. We will now look into the records we have with us. Strict actions will be taken against those found on fault" said Mayank Jyoti, Regional Transport Officer.
The order would restrict the people's choice to buy their own helmet.
Moreover, it would also force a person to buy a helmet again when he buys a new two-wheeler. This might burden those who already have a helmet.
