Health Min Bharadwaj calls for enhanced healthcare vigilance over HMPV concerns
New Delhi: In response to the detection of two Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases in Karnataka, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has issued urgent directives to ensure the Capital’s healthcare system is prepared for any rise in respiratory illnesses.
The virus, which has been circulating globally, including in India, poses a threat to public health, and authorities are closely monitoring its spread.
Bharadwaj emphasised the need for comprehensive preparedness across Delhi’s hospitals.
He stated, ”All hospitals should be completely prepared to handle any potential increase in respiratory illness as per the advice of Union Health Ministry.” He also instructed the Health & Family Welfare Department to remain in constant contact with the Union Ministry to receive real-time updates on the evolving situation, adding, ”Health & FW Department should be in touch with Union Health Ministry to get timely updates about preparedness in the capital.”
To ensure swift action, the Minister called for immediate attention to any concerns, instructing, ”No need to delay action, bring issues to me immediately over phone if directives needed.”
To strengthen hospital oversight, the Health Secretary has been tasked with inspecting three hospitals daily, starting with the largest. Bharadwaj directed the Health Secretary to submit daily reports on essential resources, including medicines, ICU beds, and PSA plant status.
He also stressed the availability of Data Entry Operators and the implementation of SOPs for respiratory illnesses.
The notice emphasised preparedness for a potential surge in cases, particularly HMPV.
