New Delhi: In North-West Delhi's three-cornered fight, BJP's fresh face Hansraj Hans has surprised all observers showing what the right party and the right prime ministerial candidate can do for a Lok Sabha contestant fighting elections for the first time.
Hans won his constituency with a clear majority vote share of 60.47 percent, surpassing his closest opponent AAP's Gugan Singh by a margin of more than 5.53 lakh votes, which has never happened in the history of North West Delhi.
In 2014, with the Modi wave driving him forward, incumbent and rebel BJP MP Udit Raj had managed to secure a victory margin of around 2.5 lakh votes.
While Congress' Lilothia and AAP's Singh kept the fight focused on themselves and battled it out with close margins, Hans surged ahead, securing more than 8.47 lakh votes of the over 14 lakh votes polled.
Singh came in second far behind the BJP, with a vote share of 21.01 percent, securing close to 3 lakh votes; whereas Lilothia finished third with 16.88 percent vote share as per the EVM and postal count.
While Hans' landslide victory is surprising, the reason for it is decidedly not. It is apparent that people in Delhi have voted not for their MP candidates but for the prime ministerial candidate they think is best for the nation.
