New Delhi: The Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta on Thursday said in a press conference that he has urged LG Anil Baijal to direct the Anti-Corruption Burea for an investigation into alleged corrupt practices within the Delhi Jal Board.
Making serious accusations against the Delhi government, Gupta leveled allegations of corrupt and irregular practices within the Delhi Jal Board under the nose of its chairperson and the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal.
Attacking the opposition in Delhi with the Lok Sabha polls knocking on the door, the BJP leader said that corruption in the Jal Board has increased since Kejriwal became its chief. He added that in addition to the increase in the fiscal deficit, the tanker mafia still gets to strong-arm itself by controlling water distribution in the Capital.
"Directly responsible for the management of the Board and its working, Kejriwal has failed to rein in corrupt officials," he said.
Gupta added that according to "official figures of DJB,
47 percent of water supplied by the board does not reach its
destination". He said that most DJB tankers do not have GPS tracking, making it easier for tanker mafia to steal water
in transit.
