Hardeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram district has set up an inquiry committee after reports of irregularities in land registrations have emerged from the district's Revenue department.

The inquiry committee set up by the DC has been instructed to investigate the land registrations that have occurred in all the five divisions of Gurugram district in the past one year.

The inquiry committee will be submitting their report on March 31 at the DC office.

The reports of irregularities have come out after the test audit by the District Magistrate was conducted across five tehsils of Gurugram.

The audit highlighted that without proper No Objection Certificates (NOC), registrations were being done by various tehsiladaars. The process was in turn causing a huge loss to the state exchequer.

According to sources, the rise in illegal colonies, landholdings and commercial establishments in Gurugram have resulted in the authorities taking such stern measures.

There have also been reports that the builder mafia have been successful in selling plots in the illegal colonies because of the irregularities in land registrations and thus earning huge profits.

A source in the Revenue department stated that cases of registry in illegal colonies without due procedures were being reported in large numbers to the DC office.

The source also highlighted the fact that the new DC had received several complaints of corruption across the five tehsils of Gurugram district.

Reports of irregularities by officials in the registration of land is not a new phenomenon in Gurugram.

Gurugram MLA Umesh Aggarwal in December last year, had highlighted of irregularities in land registrations and had hit out at former DC T L Satyaprakash in failing to prevent losses to the state exchequer.

The outburst by the MLA in December had also resulted in the district authorities to take action against people who had illegal landholdings in the city.

Speaking on the issue, DC Hardeep Singh mentioned that he was waiting for the inquiry committee's report based on which, further action will be decided.

"Reports of irregularities have emerged in the registration of landholdings in the district. We have, therefore, formed an inquiry committee that will investigate all the land records of the past one year.

The report will be submitted to us during March end. Based on the findings of the report, further action will be initiated," said Singh.
