Gang sold tablets to college-going students

New Delhi: The investigation in the interstate drug cartel of more than 37,000 Tramadol tablets which was busted by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police on September 3, revealed that the accused also sold the medicine to the college going student to earn a profit. The probe also disclosed that the medicine which was meant for concerned medical shops were diverted to the accused with the help of some associates.

Police claimed that Tramadol is a powerful painkiller, a synthetic opiate drug and has been declared Psychotropic substance and its sale in the country is regulated and controlled by the NDPS act. The synthetic opiate is known to be used on a wide scale to suppress pain and boost strength during injury and induce a sense of euphoria, hence, it is also known as the 'fighter drug' among international anti-narcotics authorities. The drug is prescribed for relief from severe pain. Three accused were arrested in this case.

According to the investigator, with the help of agents in Delhi the accused sold medicines to the students for money. "They used to sell medicine at a higher price to the youths," added the investigator. The accused used to get a large number of tablets from pharmaceutical manufacturing companies located in Rourkee and Agra. With the help of some associates, they used to divert the consignments to them. The accused illegally sold the tablets to chemist shops which are being probed. "They have very few agents in Delhi who look after this illegal work," said the police officer. The team who made the arrest was formed under DCP (Crime) Dr. Ramgopal Naik and led by ACP Arvind Kumar. Value of recovered tablets in the grey market is Rs 37.50 lakh.
