Four Delhi rly stations to get solar power plants

Update: 2017-04-05 19:36 GMT
Four major railway stations in Delhi will soon reduce their carbon footprint by adopting rooftop solar power plants, with a total capacity of five MW.

The power plants will be installed at New Delhi Railway Station, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station and Anand Vihar Terminal Railway Station.

Northern Railway, in November 2016, rolled out tenders to install the solar power plants to supplement the power consumption.

As per the plan, the New Delhi Railway Station will have 1.1 MW solar capacity installed, Hazrat Nizamuddin will have 0.6 MW, Old Delhi 2.2 MW and Anand Vihar Terminal 1.1 MW.

"Although the entire power demand of the stations will not be fulfilled, the solar capacity would be helpful in supplementing the power demand," said a senior officer of the Northern Railways.
