Greater Noida: Following a late night shoot out in Greater Noida on Tuesday in which Sumit Gurjar was killed, his family on Wednesday took to the streets protesting at Kalindi Kunj near Mahamaya flyover.
They alleged that the police have planned the shoot-out and claimed that Gurjar, 27, had no criminal record.
Massive traffic jam was witnessed up to Noida-Greater Noida expressway due to the road blockage.
They had gathered at the mortuary at around 11am and shouted slogans against the police.
The family even denied taking the body from sector 94 mortuary. An hour later, the police teams from Sector 39 and Expressway police stations reached the spot and pacified them, assuring fair probe into the matter.
However, three of his other accomplices managed to flee away from the spot.
Police said that Sumit was involved in a number of robbery and murder incidents and was also carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on him.
"We came to know about Sumit's death through television. He was under police custody and was arrested from a market place. We also met senior officials from Gautam Buddh Nagar police but they ignored us.
"We also wrote to Human Rights commission seeking justice for Sumit. We had no clue why the police had taken him into custody," said one of Sumit's relative staging the protest.
Meanwhile, the Gautam Buddh Nagar senior superintendent of police, Love Kumar said, "Around six cases of robbery, extortion and attempt to murder have been registered against the accused in various police stations across the district. He was also involved in the double murder and robbery incident of the cash van of a liquor firm in Choghanpur area of Greater Noida last month".
