New Delhi: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a gang of burglars who targeted factories and godowns in the area of Samaypur Badli.
Police on Sunday said that the five arrested persons also included two receivers.
Nine cases of burglary, all committed within the last 7 months, have been worked out with the arrests.
A Crime Branch team, led by ACP Shweta Singh Chauhan, arrested four of the accused men from near Siraspur Gurudwara.
The fifth accused was arrested from his shop in Alipur, Delhi. The arrested persons were identified as Ravi Mandal (40), Ram Vilas Ram (38), Mohammad Mansoor Aalam (24), Anwar (30) and Dinesh Goel (43).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Joy Tirkey stated that investigation revealed Ravi Mandal as the leader of the gang.
He had reportedly met Ram Vilas and Mansoor, both from Bihar, and started the gang.
Ravi, along with Anwar, later rented a godown in Siraspur, where a lot of godowns and factories are located.
This made it a fertile ground for the gang to commit their crimes.
"The gang would target the godowns or factories, which were left unguarded during the night. Ravi and Anwar procured an Eicher Canter truck for the job," said Tirkey.
Police claimed that the accused would strike after midnight or in the early hours, break open the shutters and take away whatever goods they could lay their hands on.
The stolen goods would be kept in their own godown until the time it was shipped off to some other place.
Police further said that some other members of the gang are still to be apprehended. The concerned police station and investigating officers have been informed. Further investigation in the case is on.
