NEW DELHI: Firemen faced a tough day on Wednesday after a spices storeroom caught fire. The firefighters had to cover their faces before entering the building to douse the flames. A fire broke out at a red chilli cold storage unit in North-West Delhi's Keshavpuram, a senior officer of the Delhi Fire Service said.
"A call about the blaze was received at 11:50 am and 30 fire tenders were rushed to the cold storage located in Lawrence Road," said Chief Fire officer Atul Garg. Local police also rushed to the spot to extend a helping hand and control the crowd.
The officer said it is a medium category fire and the operation to douse went on till evening. The chilli fumes were hampering the firefighting operation.
Later, the firefighters were seen dousing the flames using a crane ladder. Locals of the area also had much difficulty as the spices especially chilli mixed with the air caused irritation to eyes and skin. The reason for the fire could not be established immediately. However, no casualty was reported during the incident.
