NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has busted a racket operating from Malda, West Bengal, involving circulation of fake Indian currency notes (FICNs), which made their way through the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Police said that Kamil, a 45-year-old resident of Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, was on Thursday arrested in this regard from near Seelampur Metro station.
FICN worth Rs eight lakh, in denomination of Rs 2,000, and two mobile phones were apprehended from his possession, cops added.
On Thursday, a tip-off was received that Kamil had collected a large consignment of fake notes from Martuz in Malda and would deliver it to an associate near Seelampur Metro station bus stop, at GT Road in north east Delhi.
Accordingly, a trap was laid near the bus stop and Kamil was spotted with a black shoulder bag waiting under a foot over bridge.
"He waited for some time and was about to move when no one turned up. The police team swooped in and detained him. The search of his bag led to recovery a small bag wrapped in a mosquito net, which contained two packets carrying the FICN in denomination of Rs 2,000," said Sanjeev Yadav, DCP (Special Cell).
