Fake call centre busted in Gurugram, four held

Gurugram: The Gurugram police on Tuesday busted a fake call centre that was functioning in Udyog Vihar Phase-3. The law enforcement officials have arrested four persons. Six culprits that also include the owner however have not been arrested by the officials and are still at large.

The modus operandi of the call centre operatives was to not dupe the citizens domestically but the international consumers.

According to senior police officials, the operatives under the name of the American multinational used to contact people from the United States and Western Europe on the pretext of selling them financial assistance and selling financial products.

In turn, it used to get confidential financial detail from these citizens and in turn hack their account. According to sources, more than 150 people were victimised by this fake call centre alone.

This is not for the first time when such call centres have been busted in Gururgam. In January 2018 the law enforcement officials conducted its biggest operation when it busted 18 such call centres and arrested 33 persons. Not only in Gurugram but these call centres have also been busted in Noida.

Taking into consideration of a large number of people that have been duped by such call centres, professional from the Americal multinational companies have been collaborating with the law enforcement officials of Gururgam and Noida.

"The technical advice which has been given to our team by the professionals of American MNCs has proved to be useful in arresting these criminals. As in the past, we had also sought help from the members in the latest case," said Muhammad Akil, Gururgam police commissioner.
