Ensure strict action against ashram, safety of rescued girls: Kejriwal urges LG
New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged city's Lieutenant Governor for the safety of girls who were rescued from the ashram of self-styled godman Virender Dev Dixit.
Meanwhile, chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Jai Hind said that the CBI should also investigate the role of Delhi Police in allowing such ashrams to flourish in the city.
On Twitter, the Chief Minister stated, "I urge Hon'ble LG to personally intervene and ensure strict action against ashram and ensure the safety of rescued girls. If any policeman acts malafide, strict action should be taken against him."
The DCW chief, on her Twitter handle, also attacked Delhi Police claiming that it is shameful that Delhi Police gave the clean chit to the ashram.
In her tweet, the chairperson stated, "Delhi Police giving clean chit 2 the Ashram is shameful. CBI should also investigate the role of Delhi Police in allowing such ashrams to flourish. When UP Police can conduct raids on their own and take out even majors from the Ashram, why is Delhi Police busy defending the Ashram!"
Meanwhile, the city police also through Twitter replied to DCW chairperson they stated that "Factually incorrect that Delhi Police has given any clean chit. Action taken as per law on complaints of the ashram and earlier also matter came under purview of courts. Now sub judice in Hon'ble High Court and Delhi Police is abiding by all court directions."
On Saturday, the Commission, along with a police contingent, raided an ashram run by a spiritual head in Dwarka and rescued five girls who were allegedly confined there.
This comes in the wake of raids conducted on Adhyatmik Vishwa Vidyalaya in Rohini on Thursday last week where women and girls were kept confined in the ashram of Virender Dev Dixit.
DCW Chief Swati Jai Hind stated, "Baba is operating under complete secrecy and these ashrams seem to be the den of illegal activities. CBI should urgently close down these ashrams and arrest the Baba. All girls should be rescued. Further, CBI should also investigate the role of police and notes in the matter. "I am glad that rescue operations are also being undertaken in other parts of the country. This Baba should be put behind bars urgently," said DCW chief.
