New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has uncovered a massive voter suppression plot by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aimed at disenfranchising thousands of voters in the RK Puram Assembly constituency. Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh revealed that over 3,800 applications were filed to delete voters’ names from the electoral rolls, targeting booths where AAP has historically won.
Singh highlighted that 1,800 of these affected voters are alive and residing at their registered addresses, despite their names being marked for deletion. “All 1,800 individuals questioned how and why an application to remove their names was submitted without their knowledge,” Singh stated. Many of the residents, some of whom have lived in the area for decades, expressed confusion over the removal. “Who submitted this application on my behalf? I am a resident here and a legitimate voter of this area,” they reportedly said.
Sanjay Singh accused the BJP, in collusion with the Election Commission (EC), of attempting to manipulate the electoral process. He said, “The BJP wants to delay the elections, have voters’ names deleted, and contest elections under manipulated conditions.” He also pointed out that the applications were primarily filed for voters in booths where AAP had previously won. “For example, booths numbered 100, 98, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23 are areas where the AAP has historically won. These are the booths where voter names are being deleted,” he added.
AAP leader Reena Gupta also presented evidence, sharing that the list of names targeted for deletion was obtained from the Election Commission. “The Election Commission provided a list of 3,800 individuals who, according to records, had applied to have their names removed,” she explained. Gupta revealed that some of the affected voters, like Sunita Devi, Asha Devi, and Chhote Lal Verma, have lived in the same location for decades but had their names wrongly targeted for deletion. mpost
