NEW DELHI: Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday visited several Delhi government schools and took stock of the ongoing construction activities in them. Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister, had visited seven such government schools (six under construction and one constructed) on Monday in Rohini to take stock of construction activities.
On Tuesday, he again visited several schools. "Visited #DelhiGovtSchools in Prashant Vihar, Jauntipur, Ghevra & Nithari villages today morning. The construction work of classrooms is in full swing. Many of the schools have classrooms construccted in '60s!" he posted on Twitter.
With a few months to go for the Assembly polls, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet ministers have started surprise checks at various places.
From Tuesday onwards, they will also seek feedback from people.
Meanwhile, Labour Minister Gopal Rai also visited LNJP hospital with the enforcement team of the Labour Department. During the inspection, complaint regarding non-payment of salaries since past three months was received from people working as housekeeping, nursing, security staff, data entry operator and others. He ordered to clear the file related to pending salaries within three days. Labour Minister directed the hospital administration directed to ensure the minimum wage payment to contractual staff as well as payment of salaries in the first week of the month.
Labour Minister Gopal Rai said that action would be taken against officials who would fail to clear file related to salaries within three days. Rai spoke to employees at LNJP and listened to their grievances. The minister ordered the concerned authorities to immediately resolve problems of the staff.
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot also made a surprise visit to the transport authority office at Sarai Kale Khan here as part of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's 'direct citizen feedback' and 'project monitoring' initiative. Gahlot, accompanied by senior Transport Department officers, interacted with people at the office and sought to know their problems.
"The minister said that women's safety is a big thing and the fare waiver (for metro and bus rides) is just a small step towards it. He also said the department is consulting non-profit groups to deploy marshals in cluster buses for women's safety," an official accompanying Gahlot said.
Announcing his government's proposal for free travel in public transport for women, Kejriwal had on Monday said that all Delhi Transport Corporation buses have marshals in them and the government had ordered their deployment in cluster buses run by Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS).
Like Gahlot, other Delhi ministers were also in the field to find out the problems faced by people. They visited government facilities like hospitals, schools, clinics and public dealing offices to get a first-hand account of their functioning. The move is being seen as reach out to the people of all calls in the society ahead of Delhi Assembly polls , which will take place in February, 2020. The Delhi government has already announced free bus and metro rides for women passengers.
