Gurugram: The department of town and country planning (DTCP) has begun to take action on the commercial establishments that were operating in the residential buildings and in effect causing losses to the public agency. In the span of two days the public agency has sealed over 40 commercial establishments mostly in the posh areas of Golf Course road and Sushant Lok-1. According to DTCP for long notices had been served to the owners of these units but there was was no action taken by the owners. Senior officials of the public agency have already served warnings that in the coming days there will be more sealing that will take place.

As the city urbanises rapidly there are now constant complaints of commercial structures coming up in residential areas. The issue is not new and has been a constant challenge for residential colonies that are situated along the busy roads of Golf Course road and MG road. The lack of action however by the public authorities however has resulted from the violation of laws also followed in other upcoming areas of the city.

As per the rules, commercial activities are not allowed in residential areas, be it licensed colonies that come under DTCP or plots in sectors falling under Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). Recently a complaint was sent to DTCP by the Resident Welfare Association of DLF Phase-2 that has stated there are over 159 houses that are allowing commercial activities to take place in their premises.

In one of the action initiated by the public agency a notice was sent to one of the owners in Saraswati Kunj that was running a hotel in his house. The chaos and conflict that can take place with a delayed action were experienced last year in Beverly park situated along the MG road. The public agencies literally clashed with residents of peverly Park who prevented the public personnel to demolish the commercial structure in their area.

In another posh area of DLF Phase-3 which has a large number of PG houses and

guesthouses owing to its proximity to various commercial areas like Cyber City and Golf Course road. Most of these PG's are not licensed. Most of the PG's in an area of 150 to 200 square yards built floors that are more than five storeys.

Further, most of the landowners in lieu of greater profit are taking in more tenants than required. Even though notices by the Department of Town and Planning (DTP) have been sent to these landowners in the past, there has been no concrete action that has been taken against them.
