Drug addict techie arrested for killing his wife, 3 children

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad police have arrested the 37-years-old software engineer who is accused of killing his wife and three kids in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad on Sunday. Cops said that the accused was a drug addict and was under depression as he failed to fulfil his family's demands because of being jobless for last three months. The accused was on the run after the incident and was arrested from Udupi in Karnataka on Tuesday night.

Sumit Kumar, killed his wife Ashu Balla (32), their son Parmesh (5) and twins Arav (4) and Akriti (4). Cops said that Sumit gave sedated drinks to his wife and the three kids before slitting their throats. The accused later left his residence after killing his family members.

Cops said that Kumar had also posted a video on his family's whatsapp group where he confessed to have killed his family and said that he is also going to commit suicide now. The family immediately informed police, following which the bodies were recovered from the resident in Gyan Khand-4, around 20 hours after they were killed.

Upendra Kumar Agarwal, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad said that three teams were deployed to trace the accused and with the help of Karnataka police he was arrested from Udupi in Karnataka on Tuesday night and was brought to Ghaziabad on Wednesday.

"Upon interrogating the accused he told police that he was a drug addict since 2004 but was trying to overcome the addiction. He was working with an IT company in Bangalore but due to his drug addiction he lost his job in December last year and came back to his residence in Ghaizbad. He went under severe mental depression after he failed to fulfil his family's basic requirements and also felt complex as his wife, who worked as a teacher at a private school, was the only earning hand of the family. Even for getting drugs, he had to get money from his wife who refuse to give him money to buy dugs. Amid all these mental pressure, he wanted to end his life after killing his family" said Agarwal.

The officer further said that Kumar had been contemplating killing his family as well as himself for over one and a half weeks.

"Kumar had got potassium cyanide and sleeping pills from a nearby medical shop. He also purchased a knife to kill his family members. On the night of incident, he made his family consume a sedative drink and stabbed their throat while sleeping. However, his wife woke up and he had a struggle killing her which injured his hand as well" added Agarwal.

The senior cop informed reporters that the accused also tried to commit suicide after killing his family and went on a run after posting a video where he confessed the crime.

The accused also confessed his crime before media and said that he deserve strictest punishment against the sin he has committed. However, he said that the murder was not planned and was done in a fit of rage.
