Don't use govt logos to misguide passengers: Delhi Police to private travel agents

New Delhi: The private travel agents were told by Delhi Police not to use government logos on their shop hoardings to misguide passengers. The law enforcement agency has also told them to stay away from touting activities.

Police sources told Millennium Post that to curb touting activities, a meeting was taken by Sanjay Bhatia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (IGI airport) in which 18 travel agents from different parts of the city including Connaught Place, Mandir Marg, Kashmere Gate, Paharganj were

present.

The meeting was held on May 6.

DCP (IGI) Sanjay Bhatia said, "I told them (travel agents) to abstain themselves from illegal activities."

The police wanted to make sure that people including tourists stay safe in the city.

Sources said that in the meeting, touting was another point of the discussion.

"They were strictly told to stay away from touting activities. Agents were asked not to misguide people by impersonating themselves as authorised agent and by using any government logo in hoardings," sources said. They (agents) were warned not to send any touts to IGI

area.

According to Delhi Police annual report 2018, as many as 318 touts, travel agents, others have been arrested for arranging fake documents, passports, visas. Out of these 318 arrested persons, 108 are foreign nationals.

"Out of 318 arrested persons, 10 agents and masterminds have been arrested for their involvement in the fake passport, visa cases registered at IGI Airport police station," added the annual report.

As many as 1,026 crime cases were reported from the highly secured Delhi airports in the year 2018. And with the arrest of more than 700 people, the Delhi Police claimed to have solved 76 per cent of crime incidents.

The area of IGI Airport covers approx. 35 sq. kms. and witnesses a floating population of about 2.5 lakh people every day.

Touting has been a major problem in the city.

Delhi Police and other security force have been continuously involved in various drives to curb the menace. Last year, Delhi Police have arrested two touts for allegedly soliciting foreign tourists outside a five-star hotel.

In 2017, three persons were held while they were trying to entice a foreign national in New Delhi Railway Station.
