Doctors' strike at GTB Hospital called off

Several patients at Delhi's Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital faced a tough time on Sunday as doctors held a strike after a patient's attendant assaulted a junior doctor in the emergency ward on Saturday. The flash strike was soon called off, though, after intervention of senior hospital officials.

"The attack that took place in the medicine OPD, in the morning hours, led to chaos for hours at the hospital. Expressing their anger, doctors deputed in Emergency and OPD wards went on a flash strike. Doctors working in the Emergency ward struck work and stopped seeing the injured and seriously ill patients at mid-day," said a senior hospital official.

"By afternoon, officials in the medical superintendent's office intervened and talked to the agitating doctors. This pacified the medicos and they called off the strike and resumed duty," a senior doctor said.
