NEW DELHI: 25 children had either run away from their homes or had been abandoned by their guardians, and had landed up at New Delhi railway station. These children have been successfully traced by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Delhi Police Crime Branch.
In 18 of these cases, the city police were able to trace their families.
According to police, on November 14, AHTU reunited several children who had been rescued from the New Delhi Railway Station back to their families.
According to police, most of the children were clueless about their whereabouts and had no idea about find their way back home.
Most of the rescued children also had little to no information to give about homes.
Police said that for this operation, Surender Gulia, ACP, AHTU, formed a team, comprising of Inspector Joginder Singh, Inspector Amleshwar Rai and Head Constable Naveen Pandey, among other policemen.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Joy Tirkey said that some children were residents of far-away places in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and each child had a different story to tell.
Most children had boarded a train without ticket for different various reasons and had reached New Delhi railway station by default. Most of them belong to the poorer strata of society and almost all are school dropouts.
25 such children had been rescued by the Crime Branch, in collaboration with Sathi, an NGO.
The AHTU's efforts bore fruit, as in 18 out of 25 cases, the Crime Branch was able to locate the family members of the children. Each child was given a school bag with some books and clothes and reunited with their parents in emotional get-together.
