Delhi's air quality between 'poor' to 'moderate' category

New Delhi: Air quality in Delhi jumped between "poor" to "moderate" with clear sky on Tuesday. However, System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) has predicted that the air quality may improve in the coming days.

According to data shared by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), levels of particulate matter (PM) 10 were reported to be "moderate" (191 mgm-3) and that of PM2.5 was found to be "poor" (96 mgm-3). As of now, areas such as Patparganj (182), Dilshad Garden (174), ITO (174), Lodhi Road (166), RK Puram (168) were in "moderate" category, while Anand Vihar (238), Dwarka sector – 8 (276), Wazirpur (244), Rohini (237), Okhla (201) witnessed air quality in 'poor' category.

Central government based SAFAR, on the other hand, has predicted that the coming days will see an improvement in the air quality index (AQI).

"Further slight improvement in AQI is forecasted for the October 25 owing to change in wind direction as part of approaching western disturbances," said a forecast by SAFAR.

In also stated that the region is experiencing high surface and boundary layer wind, "owing to a high ventilation coefficient and positively influencing Delhi's air

quality'.

With Diwali almost here, state authorities have geared up to not let Delhi's air quality deteriorate. South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has started taking stringent actions to curb air pollution.

As of Tuesday, SDMC has issued about 2823 challans, while Rs 84,77,700 has been received as fine for different violations of NGT norms, in the last 20 days in all four zones.

Meanwhile, green crackers are being sold with Delhi Police denying license to many firecrackers shop to sell this time. Meanwhile, to not deter the feelings of the citizens, Delhi government is organising a Diwali Mela in Connaught Place from October 26 to October 29.
