NEW DELHI: The Education Department of the Delhi government is looking at some new push in the teacher training programme. The Delhi government already has a project Teacher Development Coordinator (TDC) programme to train the teacher, based on this the government is looking at other aspects of teacher training. "Teacher training is an important aspect of the development of the education system and we are looking into various ways to develop it," said an official.
Before election Deputy CM Manish Sisodia told the Millennium Post that the government is looking forward to building a university for teacher training. Last year under an initiative chalked out by the Education Department, Delhi government sent its school teachers to the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore for skill training and education. "Delhi government will be sending 400 teachers for training to Singapore based National Institute of Education. 200 teachers have already got training by this worlds top educators-training institute last year," said Manish Sisodia.
This year, The Aam Aadmi Party-led government in the national Capital has initiated towards creating awareness among the teachers in schools about the transgender issues. Acting in line with the move, it has launched a training curriculum for teachers in one of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) centres, of the total nine centres run by State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT). The initiative, nodded by the Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) of the SCERT, was launched at north Delhi's Keshav Puram DIET centre. The move was, in a first, launched in northern part of Delhi as it caters to a big population of transgender people.
The curriculum will provide teachers to meet the members of transgender community to understand the problems with their access to health-care and education services. Also, a monthly workshop and lectures will be organised by the centre for the transgenders.
