NEW DELHI: The Delhi government will set up a network of closed-circuit cameras in Delhi by September. The contract for the project has been awarded to Bharat Electronics Ltd or BEL, which has, in turn, contracted Mumbai-based Aurionpro Solutions Ltd for the installation and maintenance of the surveillance system. A network of closed-circuit cameras or CCTV cameras was one of the key promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The initial plan was to have over 1.4 lakh cameras installed. The recordings of these cameras will be accessible to police, government officials as well as resident welfare associations.
Last week addressing a public meeting in Shahdara, CM Arvind Kejriwal Kejriwal sought to remind people that the CCTV project remained grounded for three years due to the Centre's "non-cooperation". "The Centre refused to clear the CCTV file for three years. It was only after your ministers sat on a dharna inside the Lt Governor's house that they cleared the file… installation of cameras will start next week," CM said. Established in 1997, Aurinpro Solutions Ltd has its operations across 12 countries. The company also caters to a host of clients across banking financial and insurance, cybersecurity and smart cities and smart mobility sector across India, the globe.
