New Delhi: The Delhi government in a Cabinet meeting had agreed to provide compensation to victims of damaged residential units in riot-affected areas of north-east Delhi.
According to the data released by government officials a sum of Rs 6.5 crore has been given out to the people as compensation so far. This compensation includes household damages, loss of life in the riot, injury, theft and vandalism.
The Delhi government has given out Rs 6,50,37,125 as compensation to civilians, for damages to property, houses, injury and death, which does not include Rs one crore promised to IB officer, Ankit Sharma's family.
The government has received nine forms for houses that have been completely damaged out of which compensation for eight has been given interim relief. Under the housing category, 186 forms were submitted for substantial damages of which 155 are in interim stage or partially compensated, while seven have been fully compensated. There are 120 forms for houses with minor damages of which 10 have been given interim relief and 71 have been fully compensated.
An official working with the government said, "Rs 3.6 crore has been given as compensation under the housing category which includes completely, substantially, and minor damages to houses."
The compensation for the remaining houses which includes — interim and complete compensation — will be provided within a week.
Under the category of shops that were damaged in the targeted violence in nort-east Delhi, 688 forms have been submitted of which 309 have received full compensation. 40 forms have been submitted under the death in a family in the riots of which 36 have received full compensation and four have received a partial amount. Severe injury forms are 79 in total of which 46 have received interim relief and 33 have received the full amount. Forms for minor injuries are 64 of which 63 have received a partial amount of the compensation and none have received the complete compensation.
Out of the eight forms received for damages in jhugggies all of them have been completely compensated. Three e-rickshaws, two scooty, and 15 animal loss had been reported for damages and all of them have received full compensation. "Only in cases of loot and theft we require a copy of the FIR as it comes under Delhi Police. In other cases of injury the SDM takes a decision on the spot and there is no requirement of an FIR," the official added.
Several instances of theft and vandalism of commercial establishments with no insurance had also been brought to notice, which does not include fire or severe damage to the property.
The AAP-led government has provided a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for cases of complete theft or looting or vandalism of residential units, and Rs 50,000 for partial looting and theft. It was also decided to include "looting or theft" in the category of damage to uninsured commercial property or loss of articles. However, in such cases, the furnishing of a copy of FIR has been made mandatory.
