New Delhi: What could be a better way to bring Police and Public closer than roping in the young generation for a nobel purpose. Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Friday inaugurated first police-public digital library at South-east's Jamia Nagar police station. The move has been taken to strengthen community policing with an aim to provide platform to young college students to help them in their studies as well as to prepare them for various competitive exams.
On the occasion, CP, Delhi Amulya Patnaik, spoke about the need for the project and explained how the library had been upgraded from an ordinary library to digital.
The Police-Public Library is actually the brain child of Delhi police Chief Amulya Patnaik, when he was Joint Commissioner (Southern Range) in 2011.
The newly inaugurated digital library comprises a state of the art smart class room and 10 fully upgraded digital workstations wherein students can have access to digital content including web based resources, multimedia and online documentation. The smart class room will enable better coaching facilities for those preparing for entrance and competitive exams.
"The library will also have books, magazines and newspapers for conventional reading. There is a plan to upgrade the same to carry material for coaching of competitive examinations as well," Devesh Srivastava, Joint CP Southern range, said.
The library began functioning in the year 2012, as a library for school children and students preparing for competitive exams in the premises of PS Jamia Nagar.
In last seven years, more than 54,000 children residing in the vicinity of Jamia Nagar have benefitted from this community outreach programme. The SHO Jamia Nagar Upendra Singh said that running a library in the police station was a challenge, well accepted and now appreciated.
"I came to the library for the prepapration of mass media and finally succeeded, It gave us an poortunity to have a good studying atmosphere as ther is not much studying space at home," said Arshi, a student who benefitted from the library.
