With Centre's approval for an international airport in Greater Noida's Jewar, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is mulling hard to pursue ways to link the airport with nearby cities and highways.
The move is aimed to improve connectivity in the region and will ease commuters to reach the airport.
According to YEIDA, the newly built airport will be connected to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Delhi through a 'Rapid transit system'.
Apart from this, the airport will also be linked with the Yamuna Expressway and the Eastern peripheral highway which will improve connectivity to the airport for commuters from nearby regions.
The proposed much improved railway station at Bodaki will also be connected with the Jewar Airport.
"The initial activities related to the construction of the Jewar Airport were started immediately after it got an approval. The process of acquiring land for the Jewar Airport and building up public utilities centre will be started soon after receiving funds from the government. A letter in this respect will be written to the government," said Prabhat Kumar, Chairman, YEIDA.
YEIDA will play a crucial role in the airport project as it is tasked with the development of the region and acquiring farmer's land for the project.
The authority has also been tasked to adopt measures to improve connectivity of the Airport, following which the senior officials from Yamuna Expressway authority are holding timely meetings with the National Highway Authority of India and the concessionaire of the Yamuna E-way, Jaypee Group to prepare a road map for the same.
"The authority wants a portion of Eastern Peripheral highway to get linked with the Yamuna Expressway so that the commuters from nearby regions may easily reach airport via Yamuna Expressway. It will take just 20-25 minutes to reach Jewar Airport from the Yamuna E-way," said a senior official from Yamuna Expressway authority.
The Bodaki railway station will also be linked with the Jewar Airport through Metro Rail.
The proposal for the same will be tabled in the next board meeting to be held with the Greater Noida Authority and Noida Metro Rail Corporation.
