Bhondsi Jail raided, 20 mobiles recovered from prisoners

In what raises serious questions over systems of jail functioning, a raid was conducted at Bhondsi Jail on Saturday where 20 mobile phones, 12 SIM cards and 2 chargers were recovered from the prisoners.

While the speculation over the prisoners using communication mediums to keep in touch with their members outside was always rife, the raids on Saturday confirmed this dangerous trend.

Citing the possibility of the jail officials colluding with the criminals in allowing them to use the mediums of communication, senior official in Gurugram Police stated that action will be initiated against such officials.

In order to prevent the jailed culprits from using mobile phones, the jail authorities have begun the process of installing mobile jammers at the jail premises.

The jammer will block the mobile signals within a range of 70 metres.

Criminals from as many as six dreaded gangs are presently being locked up in the city jail.

These gangs include Manjeet Mahal gang, Kaushal gang, Kishan gang, Hayatpuri gang, Sandeep Gadoli gang and Binder Gujjar gang.
Most of the members from these gangs have been charged under serious offences like extortion, burglaries and murders.

The levels of danger of the gangsters operating from prison can be gauged from the fact that in September 2016, 32-year-old Sushma Rathi, wife of jailed Ashok Rathi, was shot dead by sharp shooters at Sohna Road while leaving her 10-year-old daughter to school.

Her husband who had conspired the murder had done so while being in jail.

Looking at the dangers of large number of these criminals carrying out these nefarious activities from the jail Sumit Kumar DCP (Crime) Gurugram Police have written to the Tihar authorities asking them if certain criminals can be transferred to the prison in Delhi.

"This is just one of the surprise raids that have been conducted by the police authorities. We will now be carrying some more inspections to make sure that proper systems are followed in Bhondsi jail," said a senior cop.
