Women professionals in Ggn continue to feel insecure, cops claim security tightened

The recent case of molestation of two college goers from Sonepat last Friday at MG Road again highlighted the insecurity of women in Gurugram especially at MG Road better known as the Mall Mile.

Not only MG road but other upmarket areas like Cyber Greens, Golf Course Road, Sohna Road, Sector -44 and Udyog Vihar that has a large number of multinational companies continue to be unsafe for women especially at night.

Most of the women professionals who work at the night shift highlight that they continue to feel scared while venturing outside and for precautionary measures, they move out in groups or with their male counterparts.

The female employees also pointed out that presence of liquor vending units and eating joints units near the offices result in a large number of men coming to these areas who then lecherously stare at them.

"What happened to the two college women on June 16 is something we all feel can happen to us anytime. In my view, if a man sees a woman drinking, smoking or talking to a male friend in the open, he feels tempted to sexually harass her. Unfortunately, men feel this is the way to show their masculinity," said Tanvi Sachdeva who works at a multinational company in Golf Course Road.

"Normally we have a very secure environment as we normally stay within our office complexes.

"However, there have been times when we have ventured outside our office for a smoke or a stroll there have been lewd comments passed at us," said Vrinda Kanwa, an employee at Cyber Green area.

The Gurugram Police on their part claims that it has tightened security to ensure safety for working women. Also, they have a dedicated women helpline number and regular patrolling is done at night.

However, the women professionals mention that security is being provided by their working organisation than the public authorities.

"Besides inadequate policing, there are also various areas in the area that are not properly lighted.

Ultimately we depend on our working organisation to provide us with better security," said Nandini Singh who works in at a BPO in Udyog Vihar.
