Delhi Police's canine brigade receives new abode in Saket

The brown Labrador 'Dayal' made an elegant entry wearing the special radiant attire to participate in 'Dog Squad Parade' at the newly constructed Pushp Vihar, Saket Crime Branch office early morning on Tuesday.
Similarly, many more members of the dog squad stood close to their handlers to participate in the grand function. The canines had a reason to rejoice too as they got a new office with 35 kennels built by the police department in the office.

Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi inaugurated the newly constructed building of Police Station Crime Branch and Dog Kennels at Sector-3, Pushp Vihar in New Delhi. Several senior police officers were also present on the occasion.

Established in 1967, the dog squad is functioning under the administrative control of Crime Branch of Delhi Police. The canines have been quite useful in sniffing explosives and drugs in the city at the time of any call.
"Dog Squad of Delhi Police is working as a part of Mobile Crime Teams, BDS Teams and BDT teams and has performed excellently on all occasions. Services of Dog Squad were internationally acclaimed during Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi in 2010," said Madhur Verma, DCP Crime.

The duties of the squad are taken in all sensitive and important functions where high dignitaries and VVIPs are present like Independence Day Celebration, Republic Day Celebration, Airport, Delhi Metro, Railway Stations, High Court, Supreme Court, Rashtrapati Bhawan, PM House, Vigyan Bhawan, Hyderabad House.

At present, Delhi Police has 70 dogs spread over nine locations. The Delhi Police also has a proposal to procure additional 100 dogs.
