Nearly three lakh applications received so far; last day of registration today
As of June 10, the number of students who registered online for admission to undergraduate courses of Delhi University has risen to over three lakh.
"Total number of registrations till 5 pm were 2,98,344 of which 1,81,566 have already paid the fee," DU admin officer, Ashutosh said in a press statem.
"The number of female applicants is 1,15,584, while the number of male applicants is 1,44,678. Additionally, 80 candidates in the others category and 911 from the PwD (Persons with Disabilties) category have also applied," the official added.
Interestingly, the number of applications received in the extra-curricular activities (ECA) and sports quota categories have shot up significantly as well, with 19,081 applications in the ECA category and 11,356 in the sports quota category.
According to the data released by the University, 1,59,139 candidates enrolled under the general category, and 61,654 candidates have applied under the OBC non-creamy layer category.
However, there has been a fall in applications in the reserved categories; while the 2016-17 session saw 34,292 Scheduled Caste applications, for the 2017-18 session, 32,601 candidates have applied. Applications received under the physical disability category are 1,385.
In line with the provisions of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, the University has introduced significant changes to its reservation policy, and has increased the categories for admitting students with disabilities.
According to the revamped policy to be followed by DU from this academic session, reservation of 'persons with benchmark disabilities' as defined in the Act will stand at not less than five per cent.
The varsity has registered 98 candidates under the total physical disability, 30 candidates under total mental behaviour category, 47 applicants in total disability caused due to chronic neurological conditions blood disorder and 34 applications under multiple disabilities.
This is the first time that applications for undergraduate admission to the University are being received only online, unlike in previous years when it used to be both online and offline.
Even after 21 days since the beginning of registrations, technical glitches and other issues are still plaguing aspirants. "Those candidates who come to dean's offices during working hours will be entertained. After 5 pm, no grievances will be sorted out," said Dr Gurpreet Tuteja, Deputy Dean Student Welfare.
The online registration process began on May 22 and will continue till June 12.
The first cut-off list will be announced on June 20 and, unlike in previous years, the varsity will release only six cut-off lists.
