Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal was on Saturday briefed about different landscape features of the DDA (Delhi Development Authroity) Aravalli Biodiversity Park in south Delhi and development of different forest communities through time series.
Baijal took a walk around the Park, which cuts across six different forest communities characteristics of Aravalli ranges. He planted a banyan sapling.
The LG was received by Prof C R Babu and the staff of DDA Biodiversity Park.
Baijal appreciated the micro climate created in a clay mined pit and transformed it into a moist forest habitat that support orchids.
He then visited the butterfly conservatory built in a natural depression, which was once used as dancing floor.
The LG expressed his desire to collaborate with the Ministry of AYUSH to promote use of medicinal plants for home remedies.
He appreciated the potential available in the biodiversity Parks and also watched a movie titled 'Call of Aravalli Biodiversity Park.'
He also sighted some rare bird species such as Brown Barbet, Green Bee-eater, Parakeets, Kingfisher among others and also saw the entire park from the view point.
The LG's trail took him to orchidarium, where he witnessed orchids and also a functional cave ecosystem harbouring bats.
The major trail took him to tropical thorn forest, scrubland and sparrow conservatory and ended at the Institutional Gate. He also walked along the rosarium and bougainvillarium developed at the site.
Baijal was also briefed about the design of the Nature Interpretation Centre, yet to be established, and the establishment of Arboreta of native Aravalli tree species.
