In a formal complaint lodged at Rajendra Park Police station in Gurugram on Thursday night, a 35-year-old widow alleged that both she and her 15-year-old daughter were raped several times over a period of time by an acquaintance.
The complainant further stated that the rapist had also filmed the incidents in order to blackmail them.
The rapist has been identified as 20-year-Ashish, a resident of Gokulpuri in North-East Delhi.
On Friday, the police caught Ashish and have started off with their investigations.
Both the woman and her daughter hail from Garhwal region of Uttrakhand.
Even though her relatives reside in Ashok Vihar area in West Delhi, she along with her two children is a resident of the Millennium
City owing to her professional commitments.
The woman had met Ashish about a month ago. After few interactions,
Ashish first started molesting her and then raped her. In order to blackmail, he also filmed the act. Later, Ashish raped her 15-year-old daughter.
Ashish who is a graduate was unemployed and was looking for a job in Gurugram that resulted in him making several visits to the city.
"We have registered a case against accused under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and POCSO Act. The accused has been held and we are conducting a thorough investigation into the case," said Abdullah Khan the investigating officer in the case.
The incident of rape comes just a day after the Gurugram Police claimed to have solved the Manesar gang rape case.
With this, the safety of women in the city is at high stake.
"There have been over 53 cases of rape that have been registered this year. Around ninety percent of the cases have been solved.
"Measures are also being taken to ensure that safety of women is not compromised," said ACP Manish Sehegal, spokesperson Gurugram Police.
