Unlike before when the Delhi University entertained every student across the CBSE boards, it will now take those who have secured more than 95 percent in their board examinations.
Due to this, a huge number of average students will lose out on the chance to study in a DU college and shall try their luck in neighbouring university, of which Jamia Milia Islamia, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, and Ambedkar University are on high priority.
Nikita Pandey, a student from Delhi, who scored 87 per cent in Class XII, applied to three other universities apart from DU to be on the safe side.
"I want to study Economics Honours in DU. But this year percentage is very high so I have applied to IP University, Ambedkar University and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). If I do not get a good DU college, I'm considering joining one of these universities," said Nikita.
Another DU aspirant, Priyanshu Singh, who secured 90 per cent in Class XII, in science without Maths, is not eligible to get admission in BSc Chemistry (Hons) at Delhi University because of the certain policy.
"So, it would be better to go to other universities," said Priyanshu.
An official at Ambedkar University, said, "These universities have always been a good platform for students with low marks.
While Ambedkar University does take out cut off as well they are well within the mark to accommodate students, who have scored in between 80-90 percent. "However, he continued saying that the first cut off to the university was a good deal for those who did not get into DU. "This is a fair deal for the students who got rejected in the DU as even the fifth list has percentages as high as 95 per cent for the course," he added.
The most popular courses in the other universities have been Economics (H) and English (H). However, when it comes to a choice between these three prominent universities of Delhi, students prefer taking admission in JMI.
According to Asgar Ali, a student who secured 86 per cent in Class XII, Jamia has more options to explore than Ambedkar or IP University.
"Jamia gives us a variety exactly like the Delhi University. There is a lot of choice in BA (H), BSc (H) and BTech. In fact, for students confused between a B.Tech and a BSc, Jamia is the best place to apply because it actually gives the student the option to try for both. Meanwhile, the fee structure at JMI is low in comparison to other neighboring universities."
