South Delhi Mayor meets AAP councillors, seeks cooperation

Seeking cooperation from Opposition councillors to improve civic amenities and prevent deadly diseases such as dengue, chikungunya and malaria, South Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat on Friday met with the councillors of Aam Aadmi Party, led by Leader of Opposition Ramesh Matiala.

Sehrawat said that all elected councillors are known faces in their respective wards and are first contacted by people for remedy of any problem. So their role in working out any civic problem is crucial.

"The basic responsibility of the Corporation is to provide better sanitation and cleanliness around our jurisdiction. We will be able to improve the Corporation's ranking with coordinated efforts," she said. The Mayor also said that she has instructed relevant departments for undertaking sanitation and desilting work in a time-bound manner.

Matiala handed over a memorandum on behalf of his party councillors, mentioning their concerns about dengue, malaria, chikungunya, sanitation and expected water logging points. He welcomed the Mayor's decision about rationally equal deployment of safai karamcharies.

"The Corporation must undertake development in all wards. Our councillors will put every possible effort in getting things done from the city government. We agreed to work together to bring substantial improvement in sanitation and other civic amenities," he added.
