Fireman succumbs to injuries after fighting blaze

In a tragic incident, a fireman lost his life while trying to extinguish the fire in a building in Anand Parbat area of Central Delhi on Thursday morning.

The firefighter, Bijendar Pal, was immediately rushed to the hospital, along with two others, but he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning. More than six people were injured in the incident

The police received a call around 10.25 pm on Wednesday that a three-storey factory had caught fire in Anand Parbat and teams were immediately rushed to the spot. The fire department was also informed and 10 fire tenders reached the spot.

The area was cordoned off and locals were evacuated from the adjoining building so as to limit any possible loss of life.

"We had a tough time controlling the fire as it has spread on the first and the second floor of the three-storey building. Three firemen got inside, but as soon as they went in, a shed above them on the second floor collapsed. Five people, including the three firemen, were injured," said a senior fire official.

All three firemen were rushed to hospital, where Bijender Pal succumbed to the injuries on Thursday morning.

Firemen Avtar Singh and Sunil Kumar are still undegroing treatment. It is reported that the factory manufactured electric room heaters. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

"Since it was at night, no one was in the factory. However, some people from the adjoining building were injured," said a senior police officer.
